I do not agree with the statement in which career and ego food are equated. Ego food is what people do for themselves to enhance their ego.

You feel better than your brother because your house is bigger than his and your wife is prettier than his and your kids go to higher ranked universities than his. That is ego food since it feeds your ego.

Career goals are not ego food. You want to challenge yourself to enhance your career, you are paying the price. That is humility not ego, quiet the opposite, isn't it?

If career is to be equated to ego food, then would we say Work and Job and Career are similar. Career is something you do to enhance the life style of your loved ones exponentially. When you have a great career your loved ones are proud of you, your favorite charities are better supported, the fashion industry and tourism industry make money, your stock broker makes a better living and you are free to visit the island of your dreams during school vaccations.

Ego has a negative connotation and career should not. Ego is good so you may distinguish yourself from your neighbor and every other human you encounter every day including every family member.

Some monks shave their head to be part of a group, some grow their hair for identification with another group. Both claim it is to get rid of their ego, which is true? Both in the end are acting out of ego to seemingly eliminate their ego.

Every housewife works, she has work to do and she does it for free, no monetary remuneration. She has the gift of seeing a clean house and her family cared for. She may also has the resentment of being used and not valued. The work she does is priceless but is neither a job nor a career.

The cleaning lady has a job that pays her bills but is not a career. Career is something you are proud about, since you paid the price to earn it and are paying the price to keep it and enhance it. Career has very little to do with qualifications earned from an university. Career has more to do with your character, your personality, your rational and your emotional mind. Career has to do with self-worth, confidence, deservability, integrity, planning, opportunity for growth, Career has to do with options, choices, decisions and possibilities. A career needs to be nurtured and the support of those benefiting from your career.
