Clinical Hypnotherapy is the most effective tool in sub-conscious behavior modification. Addictions are a combination of a physical behavior and a chemical dependency. Habits are merely a physical habits that is more annoying than anything else e.g. nair biting, hair twisting, knee jerking, foot tapping which are mainly are triggered by stress induced nervousness and later on become a sub-conscious behavior. Addictions to food, nicotene, alcohol, drugs (legal and illegal) and gambling have a chemical component attached to the physical act and hence require more intense work....

Addictions and Habits:
Usually when people speak of addictions the case seems severe and when people speak of habits, it bears a casual flavor. Humans are creatures of habits. Our behaviors and opinions are all created and rooted in our sub-conscious mind. So when we must work our way out of a habit or an addiction, the change has to be at a sub-conscious level.

Before we get technical let us handle some basics. Let us begin with the definition of these broad based terms.

Addiction: “A state of physiological or psychological dependence on a drug liable to having a damaging effect”. Another definition of addiction is “great interest in something to which a lot of time is devoted.”

So if we break it down into simple terms, addiction could be good and it could be harmful. Usually addiction is associated with illegal drugs, alcohol and nicotine. These days the media has hyped up caffeine to that place of being addictive, but it is still legal and hence not considered very harmful. Kids and adults likewise are addicted to computer games and other electronic game devices. Gambling is the most severe form of addiction since it is purely psychological in nature.

The endorphins released while engaging in any addictive behavior keep the person locked in the need to do more so the brain can continue to release the chemicals to stay in that constant state of high.

Smoking, Drinking and Drug addictions are a combination of physical, chemical and psychological needs. There is a chemical dependency to the drug. There is the physical act of lighting a cigarette, holding the drink or the cigarette, which is a physical behavior and hence easy to change.  To overcome dependency on the chemical, it takes anywhere from 2 to 21 days for total detoxification. The alcohol or the nicotine must enter the blood stream to stimulate the brain to recognize the feeling. So once we break the physical habit and detoxify the person from the chemical residue in their body, it is easy to guarantee that the person will achieve freedom from their addictive behavior.
